Diagnosed three and a half years ago, I have spent more time in remission than out of it helped by mtx dose tweaking. But one thing has been pretty much constant throughout all of this time and that is the fatigue. I never have been able to quite understand the diagnosis of remission along with continued fatigue, so thought it might have been the mtx but was told it was not the mtx but the RA. I would wake in the morning feeling that I had never slept enough, take myself off to bed from three hour afternoon naps and still sleep eight hours at night.
On this forum there appears a wide range of experience regarding dosage and timing of folic acid and that is assuming we are all on the same 5mg version, but I wanted to share my recent experience - and I hope I am not talking too soon. A couple of months ago at my introductory appointment with the new rheumatologist I mentioned once again that hoary old subject fatigue and he prescribed just one little extra folic acid per week (mon/mtx wed/x2folic acid fri/x1 folic acid.
Now it may be coincidence and it may not last, but I have felt more awake these last few weeks than I have in the past three and a half years.

Keeping our fingers crossed for you then!

Fatigue is my biggest problem. I am taking no folic acid because I am taking no MTX.

Hi Eve,

Thanks, this is one I might ask my rheumy nurse. I currently take 2 folic acid tablets a week & MXT injection on weekend and a tablet to help with fatigue but still suffer.

Hope yours improves, Louise

great news for you Eve ThumpUp

i am always saying it's the fatigue that get's me but again i am always saying i'm not a great sleeper in general even with help with meds at night, this is also from pre RA days.

but the Folic Acid issue is always one where we all seem to vary so much, i have always taken
2 x.5mg once a week .. two days after my Methotrexate, i don't think any of us seem to take the same dose or at the same time after Methotrexate,

so pleased you are feeling the benefits.

Hi Eve

That is fantastic and a real boost when you start to have more energy. I take 5mg folic acid every day apart from day after taking metho. Its just in past fortnight I have started to get a bit more energy and hope it's not a fluke.

Take care.

hi Eve

Good to hear the fact that things are improving for you- it's great to hear positive things.

I'm always amazed how much dosages of FA vary from consultant to consultant. I'm on 5 tablets a week- not on the mtx day or the day after.

Unfortunately I still get fatigue- haven't found anything to help yet.
